Joint Physician Statement on Patient Safety and Access to Care

The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) signed onto a statement issued by the Minnesota Medical Association, the  American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Minnesota Section, the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Minnesota Affiliate of American College of Nurse-Midwives addressing patient safety, access to care and the responsibility of physicians to serve all communities.

The statement expresses concern over the tragic and unnecessary death of Renee Nicole Macklin Good and highlights the importance of safety and access to care for patients, health care workers and communities across Minnesota. It also acknowledges the fear many community members are experiencing related to immigration enforcement, and the impact that is having on people seeking medical care, going to work or meeting basic needs.

The MAFP stands with our partners in opposing policies and actions that restrict access to health care and contribute to harm. We remain committed to advocating for safe, compassionate and equitable care for all Minnesotans (regardless of immigration status).
